We are seeking an exceptional R&D manager to excel in the management and promote the professional growth of our talented engineering team. Our team is expanding quickly to tackle exciting challenges with our AI-powered product. As our R&D Manager, you'll be splitting your time across strategic and tactical duties. Your allocation will fluctuate depending on product cycles and other factors; we'd be looking for you to oversee and manage our technical team and still be hands-on with software development activities (architecture, solutions, development, code reviews, etc.) The ideal candidate is deeply technical, understands how to balance product delivery with engineering quality, and goes bold with out of box solutions. You are a genuine problem-solver who can always identify a path forward and make essential trade-off decisions focusing on tangible business outcomes. What You'll Do
Provide technical leadership to the company Lead software development department, direct strategic development, management, and deployment of QA resources Guide and provide input to all strategic & technical planning across software projects Ensure product design to maintain data security and integrity Utilize practices of best-case packaged software release management Evaluate and improve software development best practices Provide version control processes to assure consistency, quality, and timelines Monitor and provide input for evaluation and prioritize change requests Establish engineering department goals, objectives, performance metrics, and initiatives to support corporate objectives Provide leadership and support to the Development Team, by: Leading team development by driving performance and process improvement Establish hiring bar for all contributors: hire, manage and supervise a team of high performing engineers Leading a culture that embraces innovation and adapts to evolving robotics environment Ensures an engaged, innovative, and inspiring working environment be maintained by motivating, challenging, and coaching for personal growth Track the Key Engineering Metrics and present them to key stakeholders. Represent engineering in executive meetings You will report directly to the founders. You are their right and left hand: building and improving their vision
What We’re Looking For
BS or MS in computer science or a related field of study 5+ industry experience in an engineering leadership position 7+ years of professional technical expertise delivering software as part of a development team Passion for hands-on mentorship of engineers and a process-honoring approach to software development Proficient in planning and designing cloud computing applications and services Solid programming experience for the cloud systems in languages such as C++, Java, and Python Strong fundamentals around algorithms, data structures, and practical applications of these to build software systems Proficient in architecture and design of complex and cross-functional software projects A strong proponent of Engineering best practices and a track record of addressing engineering efficiency bottlenecks Expert in implementing and optimizing agile development and continuous delivery methodologies Has a track record of running engineering projects with a Quality First mindset Has a drive for simple solutions, strong sense of ownership, problem-solving ability Ability to pragmatically balance business priorities with technical constraints Proven ability to mentor, coach, and lead a team to success
